April 9th, 1940 - Hitler Invades Norway - Today is the 75th anniversary of the invasion of Norway. I've decided to release a short novel into the wild about the Battle of Britain to help people > teachers > students to learn about how close the world came to falling into shadow, as all of Europe fell to Hitler and England stood alone.

"When all of Europe falls to Hitler and England stands alone, Eric Wallace, a young RAF pilot, joins the men and women of England in a fierce, desperate battle against overwhelming odds, as they reach into their roots for courage and face the Nazis in a united act of defiance."

I visited England in 1990 on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and I had no idea of how close things came. I stood on top St. Paul's Cathedral in London listening to a guide talk about the bombing of London, and how the only thing that kept Hitler from overrunning England was air superiority, which basically came down to a young set of relatively inexperienced pilots, supported by radar and people on the ground. It was a desperate, fierce battle, and if England had lost, it may have been difficult or even impossible to overthrow the Nazi tyranny.

I believe strongly that the entire world owes a great debt to all who fought in those days of 1940 (including pilots from all over the world who came to help England, including those who violated neutrality).

I think it matters because it's an example of sacrificial courage in the face of great darkness. I'd value any feedback you might like to give if you chose to read the novel (short), and whether you think there'd be any students, schools, etc. who might like to check it out. I'd also like to try and translate it.

Finally - I submit this partly to show the platform, Smashwords - it is quite possible for anyone to self-publish these days. While I hope to find a traditional publisher, Smashwords makes it free and easy - not only can one download the book for free below at the Smashwords site, but it is also available automatically in many channels, including via the iBook app. I encourage anyone - actually I dare everyone to take their life story, put it in a Word doc, submit it to Smashwords, and share it with friends and family. The world will be better for it.
